Re: Tomkins v Stones
Well you are just reinforcing the point there. Brighton valued him at £5million. The rest of the premiership didn't.

A bit like slapping 10-15million on Tomkins. Nobody will buy him for that. Nobody has. He's not even got a call for an England call up.

I can accept fans have different opinions, of course they do, but anyone who rates Tomkins at only 5 mil really should fuck off and follow another sport to follow.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
When West Ham enquired about Lewis Dunk they were quoted £5m

To suggest Tomkins is worth less than £5m is frankly a joke and IF West Ham sold him for under £5m people would be going mad.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Tomkins was unquestionably our best central defender last season. Whether he can keep to that level consistently is another matter.

But being relatively young at 26 years old with a few years to go before he would be raching his his peak, 6"3, English, with nearly 200 first team appearance under his belt and tied into a 5 year contract, he is easily worth £8M - £12M.

£5M is laughable. That would be a fee for a good championship player with no Premier League experience.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Rossal, we just sold an England international (ok maybe he's a little older) for around the same fee.
This guy just had his best season for a long time too.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Even if you don't rate Tomkins, in todays market a mid 20's English CB with 5-6 years top flight experience amd contracted for another few years is NOT gonna be sold for 5 mil. Simple as that.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Hani - and where is the England call up? He got into the GB side years ago and was dropped pretty swiftly due to poor performances.
I actually do agree on what most people say about Tomkins abilities, it's just the transfer valuation appears to be double to me.

Rossal 2:57 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
So if you woke up and saw that we had sold Tomkins for £5 million would you really sit there and think 'good deal that, we've sold him for the most we could of got' Course you wouldn't

Hani 2:53 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
Like I said not many english defenders being sold, not mid level players anyway. Why pay 12-15 for a average English defender when you can get a much better foreign player. Where are all these 15-20 million offers for the amazing Tomkins?

whufcroe 2:50 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
Kieran Trippier? The full back that had a clause allowing him to leave is the best you can offer?

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Tomkins was rated on WhoScored.com as the PL's 16th best player on the same points as Yaya Toure...

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Ah, the old look I've found someone else that agrees with me so I'm gonna jump all over that post, ploy. Pretty pathetic really. As is saying Tomkins is only worth 5 mil.

Hani 2:43 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones

We just have a lot fans that find it difficult to do that the same fans who said jack collison would be world class or Tomkins is worth 15 million. Lots of clubs do this they big up very average players.

franksfat&slow&wank 2:40 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
tomkins is also the most dangerous when we have corners imo

Re: Tomkins v Stones
I wouldn't expect any more than £5million.
If you asked any other clubs fans I don't think they'd be happy parting ways with £10million plus for a guy who's not been capped and not even a guaranteed first team player for West Hamz
He had a good season by his standards last season but he's not been consistently doing that throughout his career.

No doubt those with heavy sentimental attachments won't enjoy reading that. Shame they won't snap their claret and blue specs in anger.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
I've never really taken much notice of Stones before, but was surprised to see what Chelsea are prepared to pay for him, but probably a bit like Man City with Sterling they are also gambling to an extent that he will keep on improving.

I'd rate Tomkins at around 12 mil also. I'm still a bit surprised that we signed the Italian.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Tomkins is in my opinion our best CB.

Collins best in the air and brave but slow and loves to dive in.

Reid can be absolutely brilliant, but totally went off the boil last season and switches off. Not great on the ball.

I can't judge Ogbonna as I've never seen him play.

Tomkins for me was our most consistent CB last year, times tackles brilliantly and is the best defender on the floor. Most comfortable on the ball too.

Hani 2:35 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
Kieran Trippier 3m alright rb but is versatile. Not many English defenders sold in these windows mostly Championship players or old has beens or young lads on loan.

franksfat&slow&wank 2:31 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
tonks is class imo
in his prime and proven
tied long term and homegrown

i'd want at least 12m but wouldnt sell

"smack those left footed long balls up the field."

On average 2.3 per game?
